TO BEAN OR NOT TO BEAN

Fitting that on the Bard's birthday/deathday, April 23rd, I should find myself playing Bohnanza. What a strange concept for a card game...

I think that I want to die on my birthday. That way, the people who love me that I leave behind can be ultra-depressed on just one day as opposed to two.

Such egomania, I know, but this is my blog, don't you know...

To counter this, I have decided to spend more focus on others. I shall be the witness-observer of all around. Today's highlight:

On a quiet street corner in quaint Noe Valley, a post-toddler pre-teen boy stood with whom I assume were his parents. The parents were clean, well-dressed individuals, talking animately while they waited for the lights to change before they crossed palm-lined Dolores Ave. The boy was also very well-dressed - with jacket, tie, slacks, shiny shoes and slick hair. I got the sense that he did not normally dress as such... not that he looked uncomfortable, on the contrary, he looked very comfortable in his attire. So comfy he was dancing a sweet jig/tap routine. The parents were oblivious to the dancing, though. They were too busy yapping away and focusing on the slow light change (they were obviously running late - you could tell with how they jumped on the green). Little boy missed the light change, though. He was intent on improving this one step he was working on. Once he perfected the move to his satisfaction, he then caught up with his parents halfway down the crosswalk.

Do too many of us lose the enjoyment of the now because of the things we know we have to do in the future?

KILLER SHOW, DUDE!

The Killers came to town and they went to town at the Civic Auditorium. The opening was a multi-media frenzy... and loud - like really, really loud. My only criticism was the venue (too big, floor too hard, lot of cheeseheads).

Actually, speaking of cheeseheads - my friend and I were standing behind Pogo-boy and the Running Man. Pogo-boy bounced more than Tigger throughout the entire show. He may have been on something... at least our toes. Running Man didn't really move his legs all that much, he just swung his arms wildly and erratically, trying to cop cheap feels from my friend's boob with his elbow.

All in all, they really rocked. See them if you ever get a chance - I highly recommend. Get both of their albums while you're at it, too. FTR [for the record] - I don't say that about too many bands.

THE PERFECT MARGARITA

1 generous shot of Patron Silver.
1 Jigger of Grand Marnier.
Freshly Squeezed lime to taste.
1 spoonful of sugar (to help the alcohol go down)
SHAKE IT UP, BABY - add a twist and shout "Arriba! Abajo! Al centro! Por dentro!"

Then go watch Speedy Gonzalez and Slow-Poke Rodriguez banter about the inequities of life, and you'll realize Warner Brothers and Looney Tunes were just stereotyping Mexicans as drug-users. Speedy liked his coke. Slow-Poke liked to toke.

NEW DIRECTION

I signed a month-to-month lease for an apartment in San Francisco. Why do such a thing when I have intentions to travel the world? 1) I still don't have a passport which kinda puts a damper on the "international" plan; 2) I really love San Francisco and I haven't finished exploring it yet; 3) I'm still waiting on the corporate sponsorship...

In over 6 months time, I have only repeated visiting a place on two occasions: 1) Bourbon & Branch and 2) the Old Pro to see Bucky the Bull. I'd say that's pretty impressive... and I have a plethora of other new places I want to hit before I embark on the journey. Still - my feet are getting restless for foreign sands just the same...

JazzFest is coming soon, at least. I went to the Matt Kearney concert the other night, and hearing some live music again was getting me really psyched for my planned trip to the Big Easy. I haven't been back there since before Katrina, so needless to say I've been dying to see my old town for a long time now...

If I ever take a break from my life of leisure, it will be to help the people of New Orleans... but the best way I can think of helping is by buying as many drinks as possible while I'm there.
